Unlike Winter Session courses, Summer Session courses start and end at a variety of times and can be as short as 3 weeks in length. To be eligible for full-time loans during Summer Session, you must satisfy all of the following criteria if you are applying to StudentAid BC.
Due to COVID-19, StudentAid BC has introduced a temporary relief measure to support students. Continuing for the 2022/23 Summer Session, students may be eligible for full-time loan funding if they are registered in a study period of at least 6 consecutive weeks. In a given academic year, the standard minimum study period must be at least 12 consecutive weeks for a student to be eligible for full-time funding.
You must meet all of the following requirements to apply:
- Be registered in at least 9 credits in most programs (audited, wait-listed and withdrawn courses do not count)
- Be registered in a study period that is at least 6 consecutive weeks in length
- Have no breaks exceeding 10 percent of the study period (e.g., 3 business days for a 6-week loan or 8 business days for a 17-week loan)
Students are strongly encouraged to select a combination of courses that span over 2 terms during the 2023 Summer Session. It is not suggested for students to register in 9 credits over 6 weeks, due to the heavy workload and accelerated nature of summer courses. Please contact your Faculty Academic Advising Office to determine whether this is appropriate for you.
Eligibility requirements can differ across provinces. Please consult with an Enrolment Services Advisor if you have questions.
